Help us rescue horses from slaughter.

We have saved over 1,400 horses from a cruel death, and we need your help to save even more.

Thanks to your donation, another life will have a second chance. They can’t save themselves, but with your help, it’s possible.

Our Story

It began in 2019 with the strong intention to save horses, and thanks to the support of philanthropist and Tibetan Buddhism teacher Pema Wangyal Rinpoche, we have achieved these milestones in 5 years.

  • 1,400 Horses

At Primitivo, we have saved over 1,400 horses from a fatal fate since 2019. We rehabilitate them and offer them a new chance at life.

  • 90 Sanctuaries

Since then, we’ve created a network of over 90 sanctuaries, where many of our horses have been adopted into loving, permanent homes.

  • Support for NGOs

Today, we work alongside 30 NGOs in Argentina, Nicaragua, Spain, and the United States, providing resources and collaboration to help further their mission of protecting horses.

We’ve been rescuing horses in Uruguay for over 5 years, and with your help, we will do it all over the world.

How We Operate

Nationally

We lease land, manage, and care for the horses ourselves. Additionally, we certify private properties that wish to collaborate and adopt. In this way, after going through our protocols based on animal welfare practices, they receive the rescued horses on their land. From that moment on, the property becomes part of our national sanctuary network.

How We Operate

Internationally

We created the RGO (Global Network of Organizations), where we certify other organizations working on the ground and provide economic support, internal operational advice, and improve the collaborative network between organizations in each country.

Sanctuary “Las Ánimas”

Our Home

Our headquarters is located in the Maldonado department of Uruguay, in the Sierras de las Ánimas, where we receive all the horses we rescue. Adopted horses leave from here, while the most injured and those in the worst condition stay.
